I have always had good experiences at the path. Far from being ignored the salespeople are always asking if you need help, without being pushy. I live 1 block away from a shop and would still rather drive 30 min. to the path. I went there today to get the spokes i needed for a wheelbuild and get advice on brakes. Said local shop is where one goes to be ignored/orders forgotten about, etc.

Why does everyone complain when they don't get pampered just for walking in a bike shop?? Do you want to walk into Macy's/The Path and pay 400 bucks for a Camelbak? It's a damn bike shop people.

Man up, get what you need and be on your way. Enough with the, I want to be greeted when I walk in....and I want a my steerer tube cut for free..... and I don't want to pay full retail cause I'm special..... and I want to go on your shop supported rides......Please.....Crybabies!!!!

    TL;DR the whole thread
Quite a few moons ago I went to the path and had a similar experience and then posted a similar observation on STR and got the similar responses from all the fans and the not so fans.
I dont dislike the path one single bit, but wouldn't recommend a new cyclist to go there, however, every single avid cyclist that i talk to that hasnt heard about it I HIGHLY recommend they give it a visit.
Their business model seems to work for them.
Next time if you have the chance to, go with your friend so they don't feel like the new kid at church ;)

God does not run The Path. Your experience will vary. Just like any other store in life. Get over it.

Here's a take from the otherside.

I was at the path on what was a very busy day for them. I was awaiting my bike being checked out on the front rack on the right as you walk in. Some guy rolls in with a totally busted up rusty bike asking for it to be looked at. Appears he lent it to a friend for what I imagine was a bar hop ride and messed around with it. We start chatting. Not aware of my weaksauce mech skills he asks me what I think is wrong with his bike. I tell him some how his friend must have played around with his brake cables as the is too much slack it it. He says no way. I tell him his brake lever is toast on the other brake and he says no way.

Long story short after he badgering one of the sales guys over and over as the guys walks by helping other peeps while others are patiently waiting around for service the shop guy (mind you not a tech....but clearly highly capable) elps tehy guy out by making any and all adjustments that are merely service related (yes I was right on the bike issues) they guys says no desire to replace the broken unfixable parts.

Upon completion he then proceeds to walk his bike out of teh shop barely saying thanks to this guy who was very busy and clearly not his job. This f'n turd got this attention/ service and while i suspet the shop guy wasnt expecting anything in return teh "customer" didn't even offer the guy a fin (or a tentis shot) just to say thanks.

Moral is story (if there real is one). No place is perfect. The path excels is so many areas (along with other shops) but they will fall short on occasion or in some areas just like customers do. I have never worked in a consumer related customer service job but will offer it was not by chance but choice. There are far more many sh!tty customers out there than business IMO. Think about it a cr@p businesses will eventually go out of business. A-hole customers never seem to disappea, are in line in front of you at the register, sitting next to you in the restaurant, etc. etc you get the point

Not none of teh comments fanboy on the path (although I thisnk Tani, karl, Brian, Raul, rock, they are my local shop), also not a ding on the op's post but moreover a comment on what shops have to also deal with in regard the wack customers as well.

    J,

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's on the sales floor. Priced the same too.

Yeah, but you would never know unless you went in, with all the $99 beach cruiser boxes covering the windows........ya get in to see the 6 or 7 bikes built on the floor.

I find it amazing that they are still in buisness.

Wow lots and discussion over one shop.
For big stuff I email them and they are usually pretty good at responding. I bought two bikes through emails.
