    I had BMX style horizontal dropouts on my Soma, and used Surly tugnuts for tensioning the chain. Worked fine, no creaking, just had to check the tension every so often. Though for my next SS, I'm definitely looking at going with sliding dropouts just as a matter of convenience and cleaner design.

    Now that I want to see! Screw DOT4, I'm using Colorado river groundwater in these babies!

    I was in the same boat.....looking for a SS frame without horizontal drops or EBB......from my research and asking around, I decided on the Salsa with the new swinging dropouts....hope to have it built next week.

    easy tiger :lol::lol:!

    I've had a few different styles of SS in the past and with Horizontal I didn't like the limited hub choices and having to carry a wrench around in case of a flat or broken chain but hard to beat the price point of that style SS frame.

    Original EBB Bushnell style was touchy, grease was the key to keeping the creak away.
    Paragon sliders I actually snapped at the Fully Loop, go figure on that one:lol: but I believe that was related to rear end of that bike.

    My Salsa's and my current Retrotec have the EBB that is clamped in place by the frame, like Tani stated with the Stumpy HT SS, and this my favorite set up right now. Any SS rear hub you want to run, easy to set chain tension etc.

    SS is a blast anyway you do it:bang:

    hydrological brakes?
    That sounds like smart water. Or maybe Mr. Spock finally worked out all the bugs in his Vulcan water brakes.
    You can "Live long and prosper" or use the competitors brakes and die like a screaming Tribble !

    Just pulled the trigger. After reading all your posts and talking to a bunch of other people (and dealing with availability) I decided to go with a 2011 stumpjumper SS. Its being built up by the path as we speak. Tani sold me on there EBB. I do like the way that is tightens down. So hopefully all goes well and i can get on this sucker this weekend or before. So pumped. Also upgraded the wheels to Archs. Thanks for all your guys help explain what was what.
