Seriously? Still F'd up?!

Fb might not have the community type feel that some are looking for, but for those who feel the demise of STR is imminent and would still like to stay in touch, maybe making an STR fb page might be worth while. If the forum shut down tmrw, there wouldnt be a way for many to get in contact with other fellow mtber's from the southland.

It already exists.

Ironically, it came into being during another of the site hacks. Been pretty quiet over there for a long time since this has worked fairly ok for a few years.

Seriously though, this is getting pretty pathetic. Letting STR crumble instead of either shutting it down or fixing it is a poor legacy for all the good that had come from this group.

I left FB bc of the underlying social FB rules: How dare you*defriend me; If you don't comment on my photo I won't comment on yours; Don't post what we're doing or suchnsuch will get jealous etc etc etc.

Will it have the same rules?? Probably so....

There's some drama on STR but very minimal...just stay away from the DG's forum...heh heh heh

that lit a fire under his ass... maybe one of you Admins or Mods should do so? hahaha!

I can't understand why you and Dino continue to Admin/Mod the site in the fashion that you do.
I would be sitting on the sidelines and watching this train wreck go!

 

Bummer the owner of the site is not involved and/ or doesn't care.
C'mon George...don't be a weenie and hand it over to someone who will run and maintain the STR site like it should be.

I know Gene & Dino have a thankless job keeping this place alive. Thank you both for all your work!!

 

Another forum can be easily created, but it would lose all the history, content and most importantly all the people.

 

I obviously don't know the guy but it seems strange he would be MIA on the contact attempts the Mods have made in the past.. if you don't wanna cut the site loose, then step up and restore to former glory, and if you have the interest, time, resources or all of the above, then let someone take it off your hands so it doesn't die a slow, miserable death..

his profile says: PHP Programmer, Search Engine Marketor, Web Design. His FB profile sales he's a software engineer. I'm pretty sure he has the expertise to fix this himself. Most likely he's done with STR.

something is strange, the site has to generate some money. Maybe not a lot but some. I just cant see someone walking away from basically free money - once its setup and running. I mean he could fix the top google adsense rotation and be making easy money - the site has decent traffic volume. This is all really strange

Agreed 100% on this. Good times for sure and I for one miss those days when we can all ride together regardless of skill level and have a great time.

All forums and even FB group pages have admins that will or will not allow you post certain things. I "like" or comment on what I wish and I can care less if any of mine post or pics get a "like" or comment. On FB, you have the ability to choose your friends or unfriend them, edit who sees what you share on FB or simple PM them those things you want private. On here, anyone can see and comment on your thread or post.

For me, whether it's FB or STR, one or few people isn't reason enough to leave and shutout everyone else I want to stay connected to, but you have every right to to leave if you don't like it. Just my .02 (smiley face)

I remember that comment and it was "chod".

We do it for the love of STR and what this site has meant to us. It's been echoed many times in this thread that we've all gained long time friends for life because of STR which is why many of us are saddened by all of this.

As far as a STR FB page, I don't know of an actual STR Page, but I know many of the OG's are on FB and many of us are friends there and continue to ride or share pics of our rides. I've even posted RR's there which is nice cause I can share it with many of my family and friends who don't ride bike at all. They are the ones who really appreciate the beauty of the scenery we all take for granted at times.

He does have the knowledge, expertise AND access to fix it, always have, but maybe no "time" to fix it.

 

When I came across the FB page, the posters were people like SARboats and CC. Talk about a flashback!

Gene, I can understand if it needs an overhaul and George doesn't have the time. It's just be nice to at least get a post or two filling us in on whether to hold tight while it gets repaired, or to not forget to turn the lights off when the last person leaves.

It would be a bummer to lose this place, warts and all.

 

Wait, crap! If this site goes away, then I have to get used to new mods, who may not be as cool as the ones on here. Then I might have to watch what I say, or worse, learn to kiss arse. I take it all back, SAVE STR!!!
