Ritchey Design Recalls Defective WCS Rear Wheels

JULY 28, 2005 -- SAN CARLOS, CA (BRAIN)Ritchey Design is recalling about 2,000 WCS road and mountain rear wheels, sold both to the aftermarket and to original equipment customers.

The recall is limited to Ritchey WCS rear wheels produced since January 2003. Comp and Pro level wheels are not included in this recall.

The problem is that the rear freehub body, manufactured under license from American Classic, may slip or altogether cease engagement with the freehub pawls, causing the rider to lose all forward drive without warning. The design of the Ritchey WCS rear hub has since been corrected and manufactured correctly to eliminate this potentially hazardous condition.

For more information, call (888) 776-8625 or visit www.ritcheylogic.com/wcsrecall.

    Giant Recalls Cypress, Sedona Bikes

AUGUST 04, 2005 -- NEWBURY PARK, CA (BRAIN)Giant USA is recalling 76 2005 Cypress and Sedona bicycles because of a faulty rear axle. Some of the axles were not heat-treated properly and are susceptible to cracks.

No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The bicycles come in men’s and women’s styles and vary in size between 14 to 21 inches. Giant dealers sold the Chinese made bikes after May 16 for about $300.

Giant Bicycle is replacing the rear wheel of recalled bicycles for free. A list of serial numbers subject to this recall can be found at www.giant-bicycle.com/us.

I think those come with kickstands, so all would be good even if the axle snaps in half

Yeah, I'm thinking about it, probably next year so I can get some cash for a new bike for next season. I want to get some mileage out of it before then.

ps. careful with those rear axles.
