Noonish today picked up my new frame from The Path. Replaced my 2005 Niner One-9 frame with a 2012 Salsa Selma Ti frame. The Niner frame served me well and is the only frame I have owned that I have not broke. The reason for replacing the One-9 with the Selma was to get rid of the reoccurring EBB creeks by trying a different type of chain tensioning....new chain tensioning is the Black Cat design swinging dropouts. I could keep the Niner EBB quiet if I took it apart every few rides and cleaned it and put it back together with anti-seize. That negates one of the reasons to own a single speed...they should be never work on just grab and go bikes. I love the geometry on the old bike and the Selma is nearly identical, so moving over all the parts and basically it is the same bike without the creeks. Thanks to Brian at The Path for finding and getting me one of the harder to find frames. They said 2 month wait and that is what happened....Excellent. Just finished building it up before dark so only a shake down ride across the street to take pictures. Dean
Not much to do when building a Single Speed. Crank/chainring and chain stay clearance is very tight. I guess if it clears it is OK. Good thing I replaced my lost Phil Wood bottom bracket tool because I had to fine tune the bracket in the shell to get things to clear.
I love those black cat drop outs, keep us posted on how they work out for you. Congrats. New bikes are fun.
Great looking bike. Also looking to build up another rigid SS and the Selma is definitely on my short list. What size from is that?
Medium. I am 5' 10" with a 32 inch inseam. If you did not know the Selma Ti and Fargo Ti are welded up in the USA by Lynsky.
Yeah, I have been kind of going back and forth between the Selma and the Lynskey Ridgeline. The new Kona Raijin (also welded by Lynskey) that was just announced today should also be interesting. I know that you mentioned that the geo of the Selma was similar to you old Niner, but were there any other things that made you go with the Selma over any of the other Ti frames? Love your seatpost too. Definitely going to be part of my build.
Price, availability and I did not need a custom frame. The Ericksen seat post is very sexy. I need to shorten it and just a shame to waste ti.
Very Nice Dean. The Eno Cranks and Boone rings blend in so well!!! Is that an Eriksen seatpost? (just read your post above)
Yup Ericksen. I know I could loose weigh on this build but I have some high-end parts that just don't wear out or break. Those rims are touring rims because when I built my first 29 inch wheeled bike there was not rim choices. Next up is some lighter tubeless rims laced to my Kings.
