I saw a lion over near ridgepark a few years ago. At first I thought it wa sa huge bobcat. Later when i recounted the story to my brother "a HUGE bobcat with a big bushy tail" we realized it definitely was a lion. Rangers say there is no way but i know what I saw.

im no expert, but i do know that while the kill bite is usually to the neck, they usually begin the actual eating at other parts of the body. So that image could be a lion kill. Could also be a deer that died for any reason, and was then scavenged by coyotes, foxes, or even lions (they also scavenge).
Also, Bing, please post when and where this was. The subject of this thread has kind of evolved into the presence or not of lions in the san jouaquin hills, which is uncertain, not the presence of lions in the santa ana mountains or other sufficiently large wilderness areas/mountain ranges in socal, which is certain.

Lions have feet, legs and can cover large distances, so anything is possible.

And I've never reported a sighting either.
Saw a mtn lion, well duh, there out there. Kind of like reporting a coyote IMO.

I feel more threatened by un-leashed dogs than local wildlife, and don't report those either.

True dat. the actual threat of a lion attack on a human is extremely low.

Nobody worry. It was in the Santa Monica mountains. Last summer.

At the risk of stating the obvious, one should proceed with extreme caution if they come across a fresh kill (that one looks like it's been there a while).
Mountain lions are known to protect their meals if they get interrupted.

Cool pic, even though it's on the gory side. Definitely not something you see every day.

It not so obvious, but that is a fast section of the trail. I virtually crashed into that bad boy. And it was pretty fresh. It was a 90+ day and it didnt stink. No smell of death.

It was pretty limber when I took my little token using my anti-mountain lion quick draw thingamajiggy. I mounted it as a wrench stand :)

I ride around Dove Canyon and Coto all the time. Bellview and Tijeras Creek are everyday trails for me because of proximity. This is the board that's posted at the Dove Canyon gate; and I've been seeing deer all over. I'll start wearing my Go Pro... :)

FYI, I did call the ranger's office to report what I saw. spoke to a women. She seemed very excited about it and asked specifics about time and place hoping she could spot it.

By the way, this is the third time I've seen a mountain lion. The other two were out at Black star.

Seems like the most relevant thread to post this in.
One of my teammates posted on FB that he saw a lion this evening between Quail Trail and Nix.
That is all I have to add.

Ohhh great now you tell me.... rides LCWP / NIX / El Moro by himself at dusk... quite often...including last night

Funny I stopped on Willow last night, heard something pretty sure it was some deer in the gully beside it...hopefully

In all honestly though... I am more worried about my drive home, crashing solo, or a rattle snake than a mountain lion...
