Both. Walmart has great buying power due to their size. And the Edge 605/705 has been out for quite a while now.

so you dont have to wire it or anything to the bike? Just snap it on to its holder and it is good to go?

The head unit can detect speed through gps, but it also has an option of putting a magnet on your wheel. In case your under the woods and don't have clear view of the sky, etc. I use the magnet on my road bike and just use the headunit on my mtbike. For the cadence it has a magnet that goes into your crank, heart rate goes to your chest.. Works pretty good but i hear stories where the unit will power down in the middle of the ride for no reason. Doesn't seem to happen to me ...

also the 305 has a barometer for altitude, while the 205 only rely on the gps data. 305 is more accurate but 205 works if your limited on budget.

Yeah, just snap it on. If you end up with the HR you put a chest strap on (duh) and if you buy the CAD you put a magnetic sensor on your crank (or down there somewhere - i've never seen this in person but im sure its tucked outta the way nice and neat, but its wireless definitely).

I've not actually owned one, but I've done a lot of research over the past week and as someone who is taking xc training more seriously than ever this is what i've decided upon.

not sure about polar, but i have a sunnto that works with everything (although i have not attempted to try it with the garmin yet) - most of the time unwontedly interferes with others' monitors, especially at the gym on the treadmill or bike hahaha - its pretty funny

No, a Polar heart rate strap will not work with Garmin heart rate monitors.

    Ordered.

I've wanted one of these since they were ridiculously expensive.

Common and old problem with Garmins when you mount them on the bike. Hard hits cause the batteries to loose contact and power turns off. I just through mine in the backpack no problems. I have lost so many bike computers that I don't trust bar mounts. One OTB in the wrong spot and you are digging around in the cactus or poison oak wondering where the unit flew off to.

On the Edge 205/305 specifically, the batteries are actually hard wired in. What causes it to shut off mid-ride is the loss of contact between the two halves (one with the battery, and the other with the main circuitry). There are 8 spring loaded fingers (for lack of a better term) that must remain in contact.

When I started having problems with the shutoffs this last time on my 305, I pried it open (carefully) and bent those 8 fingers up a bit, to force a stronger contact. I used some glue to put the unit back together. So far so good, although I've still been looking for a reason to "upgrade". :)

They are supposed to be able to withstand 1 meter for 30 minutes, but I never had the chance to test this. I've been caught in a rain shower, but that's about it.

Thanks, after looking at your picture I was wondering. My Summit has a separate compartment for the batteries.

i was excitedly expecting my garmin from walmart today, but it appears as if fedex has lost my package...lame! they straight up said, sorry - its gone we've looked around for it but can't find it, sorry again.

walmart refunded my shipping and is express shipping another one, but i definitely won't get it until after the holiday...bummer...
