OooOOoo I am getting nervous about the 35 mile route! Anyone have any idea of what the cut off times will be like? I tried asking on their facebook but no luck, I think I'll e-mail them and ask if I can dig up an e-mail. One thing is for sure though, even if I don't finish it's going to be GORGEOUS! I am so excited!

Ok, dumb question for you all.
I'm doing the Catalina ride this weekend. Is a bike box needed/recommended for taking the ferry over to the island? Do you check your bike like you would on a plane or can you carry it with you like you would on a commuter train?
    Catalina vets, please enlighten me.

I have never taken a bike, but I was taking the ferry from LB at least once a month for a couple of years and not once saw a bike brought on like you would on the commuter trains with racks to hang your bike or anything like that on the ferry. I would guess I just gets tossed in like rest of the luggage.

My wife and I went in March with our bikes. You walk right on with your bike and they had us take them to the stern of the boat and told us to put them wherever. We basically leaned them against a wall under a staircase. Coming back the boat was different, but it was basically the same thing. I'd guess they're going to try to be a little more organized since there's likely to be a bunch of bikes on each boat. You don't need a bike box unless you're super protective about your bike. I'm going to wrap a towel or something around certain parts of my bike to protect it though.

I think the emails that came from Big Bear Racing or whatever it is said to protect your bike. They're going to just lean all the bikes together, that's what I got from it. I'm going to cover my bikes with hose insulation. It's dirt cheap at Home Depot.
