My wife and I are headed to Maui for our 35th anniversary in March. We are planning on at least a couple of days of mountain biking, so we will be renting bikes over there. We'd appreciate any recommendations for bike shops that rent bikes. What brand of bikes and the costs. Also, I got to surf while we're there. Any recommendations on board rentals?
Here is some info I found. http://Cratercycleshawaii.com looks like they rent You may also want to pose this question in the mtbaaarrr hawaii forums. THere is a list of bike shops in the 2nd post. http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=186366 Sprockethead went to Hawaii awhile back, just dont remember what island.
My ladies side of the family (that lives in Maui) goes here....but they are not hardcore. http://www.islandbikermaui.com/
Found it. The search button is your friend. Turns out Sprockethead went to Crater also. http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/trail-talk/6132-lahaina-makawao-forest.html Happy Anniversary!!!
Hawaii in Magazines? Mountain Bike Magazine did an article in last months issue (I think last months :-s). The link is below. If it doesn't connect, then search Hawaii in the quick search at the top left of the page. I think it said something in the area of $50 a day for rentals, but not sure. :bang: Have fun. I'm Jealous of the trip. My Brother-n-Law lived there for two years, but he didn't get into MTBiking till after he moved back to the main land. Only if.... http://www.bicycling.com/article/1,6610,s-1-12-16461-1,00.html
Thanks Hanzo, I've seen a couple of threads that mention Crater Cycles, and they are one of a couple of shops I am looking at.
Crater is right by the airport and the guy running the shop is super nice and friendly. Our rentals were Kona Kikapu's and it also includes a bike rack. I'd recommend renting on a Sat. cause the shop is closed Sun. That way you get two days for the price of one day. Have fun out there and I think Poli Poli is open now. Do a search on YouTube. There's a video of the trails there and Happy Anniversary.
Thanks Northshore. Looks like another good recommendation. They might be a little cheaper for multiple days. Thanks again.
Thanks autoduel, that's just what I was looking for.\\/ I guess I could have checked MTBR, but since I've been here at STR, I rarely go back.
