SS 29ers with horizontal drop outs

I did a search on this and nothing really came back so sorry if this has already been done. I am looking into getting a 29er SS but i know i wouldn't like all the creaking so i have learned to avoid that i should get a bike with horizontal drop outs. My plan was to get a 2011 Gary Fisher Rig and then upgrade the wheels. but the person/connection on this seems to be falling through a bit, so i am starting to look at other options. Can you guys please help me with a few bikes that would fit my needs i am looking at a total budget of $1500 - $2000. I feel i can get a pretty solid fun/racish SS bike for this price. If i cant thats cool as i know I'm not really going PRO anytime soon. haha. Anyways any help or pointers of what else to look for is appreciated. Thanks

Edit: Forgot the bike has to have attachment for disc brakes. I will be running some sort of hydrological brakes if any of you have recommendations on that as well.

 

A 2011 GF Rig doesn't have horizontal dropouts. It has sliders. Is that what you're looking for?

These aren't am i using the wrong words. All i really want is not to have the adapter peice as i have heard that is what causes the creaking

See how there are bolts that screw through this to make it work. I am trying to avoid that. Thanks sorry for being unclear.

 

That's the confusing part, because that's exactly what the Rig has.

 

What a dumb #$$ wups. Sorry. Yeah then i guess thats off the list as well. I am very new to this Whole single speed thing and obviously don't know what i am talking about all that well. I appreciate your help and patience. I have heard that those kind of adapter pieces (for a lack of knowing what they are actually called) make noise and i want to try to avoid that as a big turn on for me with the single speed would be me just hearing myself breathing and the things going on around me not my bike. I rode a buddies bike that didn't make any noise and it was so cool then i jumped on a different one that made noise and i didn't like the experience close to as much.

 

Grease solves the creaking problem. Get a bike you want to ride.

 

I don't know what to tell you. My current bike has sliders as did one of my previous ones. Neither of them creaked at all.

But it sounds like maybe the bike i was on just wasn't maintained? What bikes would you guys recommend if i just wanted a light 29er SS with front suspension and disc mounts?

Anything without an EBB. And any bike made within the last 10 years should have disc brake mounts on it.

 

I thought I had creaking issues on my sliding dropout but it came out to be the cranks. No issue here as well. I would avoid the use of grease or lubricant to silence the noise as the movement will still be there and might cause damage to the frame.

 

I love sounding like a creaky wooden ship when I climb.

 

Lots of choices out there when it comes to SS 29er. I had frames with horizontal, drops on sliders, and EBB. They would all creak at some point, it just needs a little TLC - cleaning, greasing (if needed), especially applying the right amount of torque to secure any nuts and bolts.

 

Ebb, sliding drop outs, and horizontals can all have issues. All can be great when well designed, well executed, and well assembled. Take a look at the solution that Salsa is using these days, it is very clean. Paragon sliders are awesome, and many frames use them. I would stay away from Bushnell EBB bikes. The style of EBB where the frame clamps around the EBB with two bolts is totally solid (like a Stumpy HT SS).

 

i liked my on one scandal with BMX/Horizontal dropouts.

worked well. I want a fan of my GF rig or Zion frames with EBB's.

 

I had BMX style horizontal dropouts on my Soma, and used Surly tugnuts for tensioning the chain. Worked fine, no creaking, just had to check the tension every so often. Though for my next SS, I'm definitely looking at going with sliding dropouts just as a matter of convenience and cleaner design.

Now that I want to see! Screw DOT4, I'm using Colorado river groundwater in these babies!
