I am trying to install a new FD to my bike. For some reason the FD hits my bashguard when it tries to go to the middle chainring. Do I just not have the limit screws set properly? I have played around with the limit screws however if you look at the 2nd image you can see that even if the cage clears the bashguard it's not moving the chain at all to shift to the next gear. This is what is causing me to be puzzled. It is fine in the smaller chainring however in the picture you can't see it because I took it off. I was going to try and take off the bash guard to see if it'll alleviate the problem but taking the bash guard off is giving me problems because the bolts are seized and I don't want to waste time doing so if it's not an issue with the bashguard. I had this setup on my prior build so I would think it will work but I was told my bashguard looks too thick? Oh yeah I also have added two spacers on the drive side in the cranks hoping it bring the bashguard out more so the cage would not hit it. I wanted to hear some other opinions on what I should do next?

I have the same crankset. You need to set it up where the FD cage is just above the bash when all the way out. Around 3mm above the bash. From there, setup the lower and upper limit screws then fine tune. If you need anything, pm me.

I thought about doing this too and I looked at the FD manual and it said to only go 1mm above. Looks like such a simple and elegant solution! I'll give this another try tonight when I get home. #-o

Yeah, unfortunately if you run a bash, it has to go above it and just slightly! I'm running the 22x36 stock ring gears and its CRISP as heck with my xt FD and 10spd conversion on it. Good luck!

Think of the bash guard as your outer ring on a double or triple ring setup. The FD would go above the outer, large chainring. Likewise, the FD needs to go above the bash guard.
