MVP Cycle Center: Feeling the POWER - Coaching, Bike Shop all in one!

Last night I did my very first "power test" over at the MVP Cycle Center in Lake Forest (http://www.mvpcycle.com/). It was a brutal test but I survived - average watts was 289 and my watts/kilo was 3.3. I've been working with Craig Hopps since the third week of this year's Over the Hump series and his coaching services played a key role in helping me jump from placing in the high 20s to top 5 in the Beginner 3 category. The coaching and other services being provided at the MVP Cycle Center have been such a benefit for me to improve myself as a cyclist that I wanted to share this with everyone! :clap:

For the power test we used my Trek hard tail 29er. Craig took off the rear wheel then replaced the tire and tube with a road bike tire and tube - he got it to work - he was able to put 110 psi into the tire, we slapped it back on the 29er, hooked it up to the power meter and I was ready. Before the test we recorded my weight and % body fat (that was a bit depressing....195 lbs and 22.9% body fat....ugh!). I did a 20 minute warm-up to get used to the setup then went all-out for 20 minutes for the actual test. I learned a GREAT DEAL of valuable info to improve my riding power that I plan to put into practice in the coming weeks before my next test. Also have to reduce that body fat%! #-o

Craig is an all-around classy guy, is easily approachable and I have nothing but good things to say about the services he offers, which includes coaching but he also runs his own bike shop. I'm planning to purchase a 2013 Felt "Nine 3" (hardtail carbon 29er) from his shop so I'm looking forward to upgrading my ride. When I came to the center earlier this year he was just starting to build up his shop at the new location. Now (as you can see in the pictures on the center website) everything is set up and looking great.

Sounds Sicky! I have the 2013 Felt Nine 3 and its a great bike! It can handle anything! I have taken it on some very technical single track and rock gardens and it handles well. You will love it!
