I noticed that too. Looks like the lower portion of the Gabe has already burned. The road to Lukens, past the fire "Station", has already burned too..ouch.

I just got back from as far up ACH as I could get (just below the La Canada Country Club) It looked like those houses around there were about to go up in flames. A much different looking ACH than when I was in that area yesterday watching the choppers refill at the golf course. The fire has gotten much, much bigger since last nights sundowners and has crossed over to the East side of ACH, down into the Gab and up the other side (KB??? :()

I talked to some Forestry service personnel who said that the fire had burned to the Brown Saddle. El Prieto is definitely at risk. They said ACH would not reopen for a while due to landslides and huge boulders that were displaced onto the HWY. There were indications the ANF will not reopen for at least a week and possibly much longer.

Very sad news for outdoor enthusiasts who love the San Gabes :(

That sounds like maybe part of Ken Burton Trail has already burned...very big bummer that the fire is in that canyon. Hope the wind changes directions in a hurry.

I was up the crest earlier near the first turn out, pretty sure brown mountain, El P and most of your favorite trails up the arroyo are done.

It's fairly green in there and it's a natural cycle so I think the damage will be limited.

They were just letting it burn and concentrating on areas around ACH to the west.

Mt Wilson trail burned 4-08 and has been nice and prime pretty much since last Fall. So give El Prieto 6 months plus some trail re-work.. but will extra suck if Sunset and Merill go too

Better for it to burn now vs. when the Santa Ana's are kicking into gear. At least there will be no ammunition for near-future fires. A natural fire break. Sucks, yes but it's mother nature doing it's thing, as it always has and always will. So long as there was no lives lost, the rest all comes back.

    Nasty...

... Another shot from tonight around 7pm. Fire looks to be above Paul Little and Oakwild. It was coming down towards JPL and going up the ridge and east towards Millard Canyon.

My gf and I made a Pinkberry run to La Canada and we drove up to the JPL lot where the party was happening at 10pm. So many people out there, traffic was crazy and it was more crowded than any other day I've seen. Anywho, they had caution tape blocking off any entrance by the yellow gate above JPL.

According to the incident tracking service at about 10 pm. tonight:

    Fire Behavior

Predicted movement along Arroyo Seco drainage towards Brown Mountain. The fire is currently making a run towards Mount Wilson which is a major communications facility.

yea what a circus I was there around 10PM, too. The masses have voted; it's the best free entertainment in town. Bring the kids and grandma, too

Looked like lots of the Brown Mt Road is consumed, but fire not down into El Prieto yet if I were to guess

I live directly facing the Arroyo so I can keep an eye on it from here. Unfortunately I haven't ever done El Prieto before - Yes you can shoot me now :)

My excuse is my technical skill was *zero* until this year and had heard enough horror stories about it to be turned off.

Anyway, there's no reason to either panic or celebrate at the moment. From what I can see the fire burned a steady line southeast, then stalled with a gentle west breeze (around the "upper Brown" section, significantly northwest of the saddle as best as I can tell in the dark)

While that breeze is apparently raising some havoc over on the south face of Lukens, it slowed down the Arroyo fire line so it burned up a lot of fuel. While there are some flare-ups coming down the Arroyo, they've also been stalling out in that pre-burnt section for now.
