i've got $3.5k-4k to spend. what would be better for all mountain and a semi fat-ass(6'3", 250lbs)#-o? a trek remedy or build up a heckler frame?

    Trek, hands down.

Heckler is OK, but for what you have to spend picking up last years closeout from a Trek dealer will be the best money can buy. Upgrade to some Iodine or XT wheels and you will dominate.

It's more than that, The ABP design is much stiffer laterally. I think the 7 is the model with the XT level kit, but it's orange. The 6 has a coil, and 8 (9?) is carbon for 2010. I'd try JAX or any other Trek dealer to demo one.

I'd take a used 5spot, but from your choices I'd pick the heckler.

If you've got that much to spend I would look at a Blur LT instead of the Heckler. You can kit it out very well for around that price range. If you are only going with those 2 as choices I would go with the Heckler. I am a couple inches taller than you and about the same weight and the Blur is the best fit of any bike I have ever been on.

I am built like you and had a Heckler. I regret selling it.

I put a 5.0 coil on the back and hade a 36 Vanilla up front. Azonic Outlaws, SLX cranks, and Juicy 7 brakes. Made a huge mistake and sold it.....

I say go Heckler. I rode it in mammoth and extreme places like the fully loop.

    I ran heavy tubes.

I wasnt really worried about the weight of the bike when I was backing 20-30 extra pounds I shouldnt.
