Well...I'm down, but not out. Looks like I've got some severe mitral valve regurgitation that is going to require heart surgery to repair early next year. Based on what I have heard and understand, this defect is something that was just written in the stars for me and it has been progressing over time. My cardiologist says I've got a great outlook and may end up stronger than before, but I have to stay off the bike for now. I wanted to say thank you to the Sunday STR Fully crew for the great rides this year. Vince's Sunday adventure through Sunny Hills was a great ride to end the season on. Anna and I want to wish you all a great holiday season, get in some great rides for us, and we will see you next year at Fully as soon as I can get on the bike! -Bobby And to you, you evil CHSP Bane Ridge Wall....I will conquer you again!
I was wondering what happened to you. Can't believe what I just read. Get healthy. You WILL be in our thoughts. Just "because" you are unable to ride, doesn't mean you and your wife can't join us (all 20 of us) for post ride breakfast!!!!! (Not really a request. More like a demand) Still in disbelief. Wow!
You will come back better than before, and you'll be set up for a stronger heart than before because it will be without a defect. If you have to have the valve replaced, today's techniques set it up so that you will be stronger than before, and that if it requires future replacement or maintenance, its less invasive. I know several people across all age ranges that have had something similar, and they've all come back stronger than before...one is on her third valve replacement over the past 30 years and has ended up stronger and recovered quicker than before after each surgery, and she's in her 70's now (although not on the bike). Although we don't cross paths, stick with the recovery program and you'll be kicking Dino's butt in no time.
Sucks to hear the bad news Bobby. We'll temporarily miss seeing you huck that red machine over everything and can't wait for your comeback. Vince is happy to hear you like his detour. See ya soon!
Get well soon Bobby! like dan said, you will be stronger after the surgery. tell your wife you need a new bike after the surgery for rehab. pretty sure she will say no. maybe she will let you get one anyway. it is worth a try. she might say ok. lol.
Dino - A million thanks, we are still in shock as well. But, as I promised Amber, we will see you at Heros as soon as we can! Dan - Thank you for the encouragement, it is needed and getting back on my bike is one of the things driving me. Grego - Thanks buddy! I can't wait to comeback as well and hopefully Vince can show me around Summit soon. Mike - Thank you and you have a valid point. I'm already eyeing some full squish bikes under the guise of "I'll need suspension post op" LOL
The problem is that you disrespected the El Mariachi with all of those gears and the fancy fork. It is now getting pay back!
Hey Bobby, I'm so sorry to hear about this horrible news. I just posted on Anna's FB wall telling her how we missed seeing you guys at the FLoop too I'm confident you'll be back on the bicycle in no time. We'll be thinking of you and keeping you in our prayers for a speedy, pain-free recovery. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need anything... Free babysitting offer still stands Take Care and FIGHT ON! ~Amber
Now you tell me!!!! And those docs are going to have to work some magic if I'm going to do Holy Jim on a single speed! Thanks Amber, really appreciate the kind words and encouragement. If the need arises, we will gladly leave the little man with you . You take care as well, keep crushing those monster climbs, and Fight On! -Bobby
OK, so I'll be a "little" faster than you for a few months but I can't wait for you to launch a jump I didn't see and blow right by me. Be sure to keep us updated. Dino said the next Hero's meal is on him - I heard him say it!!
Bobby, I don't know you but heal up and you will be back!!!! I am getting back into riding and even the loop kicks my ass, but I have NO excuse!!! So relax and get better, the trails will be waiting.
Hope you get better soon Bobby, was wondering what happened to you guys, haven't seen you guys for a few weeks. Hopefully all goes well and fast recovery..
Is there a Christmas weekend fully loop ride???? I am good to go and we are itching to get back on the trail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
